TWO dozen angry punters besieged York's weighing room after racing last night, claiming the judge called the wrong result to the penultimate race of yesterday afternoon's card.

Ed Dunlop's Court Masterpiece was called the short-head winner of the Convivial Maiden Stakes, in which the Barry Hills-trained Arctic Burst was placed second.

The Judge Alastair Stewart said: "The bit ring and the mouth is against the face of Richard Hughes's horse and that means his horse has won."

Geoff Allen, from Pontefract, was one of the punters who harangued Jockey Club Director of Public Directions John Maxse, saying: "I had pounds 100 on Arctic Burst, so it has cost me pounds 250. I believe the judge has got it wrong."

Hills revealed he is considering a challenge to the official verdict, saying: "I don't agree with the result, and I will have to talk to the owner Robert Sangster. I don't think he's got the right horse in front.

"We could appeal, but it doesn't affect the betting."
