Martine's tiff over sad ender.

EASTENDERS barmaid Martine McCutcheon blows a kiss to onlookers as she gets into the festive spirit.

Martine - Tiffany in the BBC soap - was putting on a brave face as she went out on the town hours after it was announced her character was to be killed off.

The 22-year-old actress revealed she had begged programme bosses not to kill off her character so she would have the option of a return to the show.

But instead, she will die after being knocked down by a car in an episode expected to attract 20million viewers on Hogmanay.

Martine - who became one of the soap's most popular characters - will now pursue a music career after signing a pounds 1.2million deal with Virgin Records.

She said: "I wanted to be written out but not in such a final way. I was very upset.

"Even if I become the most successful singer in the world, I would still have loved it if I could have walked back into the Queen Vic."
