French leaves in the autumn.

EASTENDERS star Michael French has been persuaded to stay on by soap bosses after a string of top names quit the show.

And it is believed that the 34-year-old actor - whose gay love affair was recently exposed - will be involved in an explosive final storyline before leaving in the autumn.

Series producer Jane Harris said: "Recent speculation about Michael French's private life has no bearing on his contract with EastEnders.

"Michael isn't leaving in June. We are delighted to have persuaded an actor of such high calibre to stay.

"His contract in the hugely popular role of David Wicks has been extended until late autumn."
