Electronic Arts Acquires Software Developer Manley & Associates.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 1996--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced it has acquired Manley & Associates, Inc., an independent developer of interactive entertainment and education software, based in Issaquah, Washington.

Manley will become Electronic Arts Seattle, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Electronic Arts (EA). Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Manley & Associates, founded in 1982, has developed more than 70 software titles for many of the industry's top publishers including Electronic Arts, Activision, Disney, GameTek, MECC and Spectrum Holobyte. Manley's products have been recognized for their superior production values, engaging content, and depth of game play. The 46-person design and development organization has won several prestigious industry awards for its entertainment and education titles. Manley will develop entertainment software for personal computers and new advanced 32-bit platforms exclusively for Electronic Arts.

"This acquisition is part of our long-term strategy to invest in the best creative talent in the interactive entertainment field," said Larry Probst, chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts. "Manley has established a successful track record producing titles for some of the industry's most important publishers, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with their talented group of designers and artists on titles targeted for personal computers and the new advanced 32-bit entertainment systems."

Probst continued, "Creative talent is the lifeblood of our industry. In addition to the experienced team at Manley, expanding our studio operations into the Seattle area provides access to the rapidly-growing interactive talent pool located in the Pacific Northwest."

The acquisition of Manley is consistent with EA's strategy to enhance its development and creative resources through acquisition or investment. Last year the company acquired Bullfrog Productions Ltd. of Surrey, England, and made minority investments in Visual Concepts (San Rafael, CA) and NovaLogic (Calabasas, CA).

Electronic Arts, headquartered in San Mateo, California, is a leading interactive entertainment software company. Founded in 1982, EA posted revenues of over $490 million for fiscal 1995. The company develops, publishes and distributes software worldwide for personal computers as well as major dedicated video game systems. -0-
