Cull Micro Imaging.
WIRRAL-BASED Cull Micro Imaging is an established family business run by brothers Damian and Tim Cull, and specialises in document management solutions. The company is a third generation family business, set up in 1926 by the Culls' grandfather, renowned wedding and press photographer William Cull.
Now the company specialises in the bulk scanning of client's files to CD ROM, enabling instant retrieval of files and making lost documents a thing of the past.
Around one million documents, the equivalent of a double-decker bus full of paper, reach Cull's business premises in West Float Industrial Estate, Birkenhead every month.
These documents are then prepared, scanned and stored electronically on either Cull's web-based or CD ROM retrieval system, eliminating the need for clients to store large amounts of files at their own premises.
The service is invaluable for Cull's clients in terms of efficiency and cost savings, as it provides them with instant retrieval of their files and means the hard copies can be disposed of, drastically reducing requirements for costly storage space.
A complete end-to-end service includes installing equipment, training staff and ongoing maintenance. The company also provides consumable items for allequipment purchased by customers such as toners, lamps, cabinets and film.
Cull's customer base now includes Marks & Spencer, The Home Office, OGC The Buying Agency and The University of Liverpool.
Currently 50 staff are employed at the firm, and it is expected that another 10 will be recruited over the next three years. Turnover is on target to reach pounds 1.5m this year and double within the same timescale.
Earlier this year, the company received backing totalling more than pounds 0.25m from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF), Barclays, Eurofactor, and Directors own investment.
Director Damian Cull said: "We are delighted to have been named as finalistsparticularly since there were so many high quality entrants. We feel proud to be a family business and think Merseyside Special Investment Fund's idea of an awards ceremony specifically for family businesses is a great idea."
Cull has developed from a wedding photography company to a high tech reprographics and microfilming business through to the document management solutions provider it is today.
It is a great example of a family business that has changed with the times in order to adapt to market needs and demands, particularly in its use of new technologies
