Clubbing: Pride in our city.
WE'REinto May and we all know what that means. It's the start of the festival season.
There are Prides planned in a number of cities including Oxford,Leicester,Nottingham and Reading in addition to the usual events in Manchester and London.
So when is Liverpool's Pride? Sadly, thereisn't one. We had Merseypride a few years ago that brought us all together for a fun day out in Pownall Square.
It was so good we even attracted some fundamentalist Christians who had to be held back by the police.
A similar event was planned for the year after but didn't come off for one reason or another -perhaps the Christians were double-booked.
But alas, since then there's been nothing. Liverpool is a major city with a vibrant gay scene. Do we really want to be out done by Reading? It's about time the Liverpool scene took a leaf out of Manchester's book -albeit the Manchester of a few years back -and started to work together for the greater good.
We'vegot the 800th birthday in 2007 and theCapital of Culture the year after -opportunities not to be missed.
Unfortunately there isn't a forum that currently commands the support and respect of the whole gay scene. We need to get our act together.
