This article focuses on one particular aspect of the welfare system: the role that regulates the cohabitation of welfare recipients with another person. 'Ontario Works' renews the old moral regulation of single mothers living on welfare, contributing to their poverty and insecurity. This new regime of moral regulation is called 'judicialization'. In the last section, the article will look at a case of a single mother whose battle with the welfare system--in a context of violence--is a good example of the 'judicialization' of women's lives.
