y-stanbul State Theater play wins awards in Macedonia.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- ystanbul State Theater's modern production of the ancient Greek tragedy "Antigone" received the best performance and best director awards at a Macedonian festival, Turkish news agencies reported on Monday.

Adapted and directed by Kenan IE-yk, "Antigone" was staged during the International Antique Drama Festival, which ran July 14-29 in the historic town of Stobi, south of the city of Veles. The jury of the festival named IE-yk the best director and the play the best performance.

One of seven surviving ancient texts by Sophocles from among the hundreds he is estimated to have written, "Antigone" was translated into Turkish in the 20th century by author Sabahattin Ali. The ystanbul State Theater production of Sophocles' ancient text features a star-studded cast including such well-known thespians as Ali SE-rmeli, Attila OlgaE* and Suna Selen. The team will later travel to the city of Ohrid to take to the stage on the night of Aug. 16 at the Grigor Parlichev Cultural Center as part of the city's annual summer festival.
