WELCOME TO THE PUNCH (Channel 4, tonight, 11.05pm) JAMES MCAVOY stars as an inexperienced yet ambitious detective, who attempts to singlehandedly take down a notorious criminal played by Mark Strong. Set amid the skyscrapers and riverside apartments of Canary Wharf, the result is an engrossing thriller.
KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS (BBC4, Wednesday, 8pm) SIR Alec Guinness delivers eight tour-deforce performances in this delicious 1949 Ealing black comedy, which is regularly voted one of the best British films of all time. The film revolves around the eccentric d'Ascoyne family whose sizeable fortune proves a temptation too great for one relative.
DEAR JOHN (Film4, Thursday, 6.45pm) HEART-RENDING romance adapted from the bestseller by Nicholas Sparks. Army Special Forces operative John Tyree (Channing Tatum) meets local girl Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) when he is on leave, but when he has to return to the front line their relationship could be one of the first casualties.
MOON (BBC2, Friday, 11.35pm) DAVID BOWIE'S son Duncan Jones makes an auspicious directorial debut with this haunting, science-fiction drama.
It stars Sam Rockwell as astronaut Sam Bell, who has been working alone at an energy-generating base on the Moon for three years.
