tv choice: best documentary; The Victorian Sex Explorer, Channel 4, Monday, 9pm.

DEAR old Victorian England. We have so much to thank you for. Or "for which to thank you", as you'd rather us say. Things like Charles Dickens, Christmas and the crushing feelings of embarrassment and inadequacy regarding the act of sexual congress that lie at the core of British identity. Or so we've been led to believe. Mainly by Channel 4 documentaries telling us how rubbish we are in the sack. Anyway, now a Channel Four documentary narrated by Rupert Everett, pictured, a man who has done more to dismantle outmoded notions of sexuality single-handed than a whole phalanx of sociology students, is out to EXPOSE THE TRUTH about the Victorians. Apparently at least some of them were quite a sexy bunch. That's a relief then.
