the Razz: Tony: I'm sick of Amarillo.

Byline: BEVERLEY LYONS AND CATH BENNETT

CROONER Tony Christie has promised NEVER to release another version of Amarillo.

The veteran singer is making a third attempt at chart glory with the adaptation (Is This The Way To) The World Cup.

But he has vowed that once the English footie furore has died down, the song will be put on the sidelines.

He said: "Releasing it again was the last thing on my mind - I only did it for a bit of fun and because the proceeds were going to Sports Aid.

"I am getting a bit sick of it - it's like it's developing a mind of its own. After this that will be it, although I think I'll have to play it at my live shows."

Tony, currently working on a new album, played a three-song set at Glasgow's Campus last night - and was careful to sing the original lyrics of Amarillo.

He said: "It would be madness to sing the World Cup version in Scotland - there'd be pandemonium!"
