He's one of Martin Sheen and his artist wife Janet Templeton's four children - all of whom have become actors. As a child, Charlie fought constantly with his older sibling Emilio, and was a gifted student until he began skipping school to play baseball.

Career: His screen debut came in 1974's The Execution of Private Slovik. Despite dreaming of a baseball career, he began acting professionally in the mid-1980s. He appeared in Red Dawn, Lucas and Ferris Bueller's Day Off before Platoon made him a star in 1986. He followed it up with Wall Street, Young Guns, Eight Men Out, Major League and two Hot Shots! movies. Sheen's career suffered as a result of his drug abuse during the 1990s, but he returned to form with appearances in Being John Malkovich, Spin City, Two and a Half Men and Anger Management. Love life: Has been married three times and has five children. Don't mention: He overdosed on cocaine in 1998 when he was on probation for a previous offence. He was sentenced to 30 days in a rehab centre, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanour assault. He was removed by police from spotlight on... Charlie Sheen a New York hotel after reportedly causing $7,000 in damage. He admitted to drinking and using cocaine that night.
