reviews: Muse are out of this world; MUSE, NEC Arena.

Byline: SIMON COLE

AFTER almost three years, Muse carried on their winter season in fine style at a sold-out NEC Arena.

With a set that looked like part of a spaceship at times, the band roared through some of their greatest hits, as well as a selection from their latest album Black Holes And Revelations.

A giant TV bank rose up to reveal the drum-kit and showed different images all night while the band performed. Giant confettifilled balloons were launched into the crowd, exploding to shower the crowd in glitter.

But the stage show perfectly complemented the band's performance, rather than overshadowing it.

Still, it was the music that stole the show. Super-hits Plug In Baby, Hysteria and Time Is Running Out met with thunderous applause and slower tunes had all the cameras and lighters out in the crowd.

Ending the gig with two encores, the band showed just how versatile they really are and mixed different types of music together.

The first boasted Feeling Good, Sunburn and Hoodoo while the second added Stockholm Syndrome before they finished with the aptly-named Take A Bow.

A fantastic show. Hopefully, they won't leave it so long before they return this time.
