pounds 6,000 CD player haul.

Police are trying to trace the owners of more than 100 suspected stolen car CD players.

Officers recovered a large number worth over pounds 6,000 at a house in Pennywell, Sunderland, during a raid and believe they may have been stolen.

A 39-year-old man was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

The operation formed part of Chief Constable Mike Craik's pledge of total policing to tackle crime at all levels.

DC Mick Dorothy, of Sunderland police, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who has had a car CD player stolen.

"We will ask them to provide details of when it was stolen, the make, model and serial number. People should be able to find the serial number in their car manual.

"There are simple steps people can take to prevent becoming a victim.

"Always use a garage if you have one and if not try to park in busy and well lit spots."

People who have had a CD player stolen are asked to contact police on (0191) 454 7555, ext 66941.
