pounds 50k Sky fine for news con.

A TV news channel has been fined pounds 50,000 by television watchdogs for misleading viewers during the Iraq war.

Reporter James Forlong quit his job at Sky News and later committed suicide after he admitted faking a report in March.

A spokesman for the Independent Television Commission said: "Audiences are reliant on the accuracy of news reports, particularly during times of war.

"The report had not been presented with due accuracy."

His dispatch showed a cruise missile being launched from a Royal Navy submarine.

Sky screened it, believing it to be active combat, but it turned out to be library footage of a training exercise.

Sky News declined to comment.
