pounds 500,000 HAUL BY RAIDERS; Post offices targeted.
A GANG of armed robbers from Merseyside seized almost pounds 500,000 in raids on sub-post offices across eight counties, a court heard.
The masked men targeted rural sub-post offices where the postmaster or postmistress lived on site or nearby, Chester crown court was told.
They regularly tied up and threatened the postmaster or members of his family with knives.
They are also accused of raiding the bedrooms of postmasters and postmistresses to steal jewellery.
Five men are accused of conspiracy to rob post offices in Merseyside, Cheshire, Anglesey, Flintshire, Deeside, Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire between May 2000 and November 2001.
They are Stephen Barlow, 38, of Lambourne Road, Norris Green; John Barlow, 39, of Eaton Road, West Derby; Alan Motion, 34, of Keir Hardy Avenue, Bootle; Paul Molloy, 35, of Haggerston Road, Walton; and Duane Trussell, 39, of Chepstow Road, Walton.
They all deny conspiracy to rob.
