pounds 320 taken in cashpoint raid.

Muggers attacked a man from behind and stole his wallet seconds after he withdrew hundreds of pounds from a cash machine in a busy city street.

The 23-year-old man had just taken out pounds 320 from a bank cash machine on the corner of Elvet Crescent and New Elvet in Durham City at 9.15am yesterday.

As he walked away a large youth pushed him from behind and grabbed his wallet which had fallen to the ground, before sprinting off.

He was described as white, aged 16 to 17, 5ft 10ins tall, well built with a distinctive bald head with a stripe, crease or fold at the back.

He was wearing a dark coloured short sleeve T-shirt, dark tracksuit bottoms with a green stripe and light coloured trainers.

An accomplice also ran from the scene.

He was described as 5ft 8ins tall, slim built wearing a red baseball cap, grey hooded sweatshirt, dark tracksuit bottoms and light trainers.
