pounds 253,000 payout for man overboard.

An independent report into a double shotgun killing in a country pub will be made public later today, two-and- a-half years after the deaths. It will look at the circumstances that led farmer William Davies of Llangadog in West Wales, to murder local landlady Caroline Evans with a shotgun to the head. Mr Davies was being treated for mental health problems by Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust at the time. After the killing in February 2003, he turned the shotgun on himself. The review is into the care arrangements for Mr Davies.

THE family of a man who drowned when he fell overboard from the deck of a ferry are to receive pounds 253,000 compensation.

Father-of-two Michael Davis, 35, of Bristol, died during a Stena Line crossing on the Koningin Beatrix from Rosslare to Fishguard in October 2000.

The judge said the ferry had no clear and carefully prepared rescue plans in place. The 55-year-old Captain David Rhys Parry Williams's rescue procedure was 'ad hoc, ill-prepared and not well thought out,' he said.

LEADING members of the pubic sector will meet today to discuss plans to harness the full potential of South Wales' industrial heritage.

The plans, costed at around pounds 58m over the next decade, would involve giving local people and visitors renewed access to hundreds of historic locations and routes, including disused railways, canals and buildings, and developing new and imaginative ways to tell the stories behind these places.

These projects form part of five Area Action Plans.
