FINE LINE OF COURAGE DRAWN IN ACTION SPORTS VIDEOS
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme skier Scot

Schmidt knows intimately the limits of human endurance, skill and courage.
Schmidt has earned his livelihood pushing these limits while leaping from snow-covered precipices and negotiating the world's steepest runs, much of which has been captured in film and has inspired skiers and non- skiers alike.
Schmidt, who owns a reputation for knowing just how far to push, wants to excite people through his adventures on film to find their own limits.
"I want to inspire others to push it to the fine line, not to push their courage beyond their skill level and ability," he said.
For some, he added, that could mean making their first successful turn on a pair of skis or taking their first intermediate or advanced ski run.
The point is, he said, that viewers can learn to engage their own limits by watching others take on extreme challenges on film.
"Videos are a powerful source for that," he said.
In fact, demand for action sports videos, a genre that features everything from bungee jumping to windsurfing, continues to grow as more health-conscious Americans search for new adrenalin rushes, according to filmmaker Kurt Miller, son of ski-movie legend Warren Miller.
"I believe that these are the ultimate films people are looking for," said Miller, who took over Warren Miller Entertainment with his partner Peter Speek, in 1989, and will be featuring Schmidt in his fall release, In Search of Powder.
Action sports videos feature activities in which nearly anyone can participate, which makes up a large part of their appeal, Miller said. "These are freedom-oriented sports."
Jeff Reynolds, president of the distribution firm Video Action Sports, Inc., in San Luis Obispo, Calif., said he got into the business because of his admiration for those who, likdeos, he added, is that "you can do something about your life. You can do something with it and turn what you have into something better."
