Byline: By Alan Oliver

I can only imagine what must have been going through the minds of the Newcastle United supporters who were at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

For England striker Michael Owen would not have scored in the World Cup qualifier with Azerbaijan had he played all night.

In fact, that old chestnut of not hitting a barn door if he was holding the handle came readily to mind.

Could this be the same Michael Owen who has scored more Premiership goals against United than any other team?

For the want of a better saying, let's just call it Murphy's Law.
