on target duffy wins gong again; REFLECTIONS FROM PAUL O'HEHIR.

DUNDALK star Michael Duffy has won the SSE Airtricity / SWAI Player of the Month award for August.

It's his second time to win the gong this season and he held off Sligo Rovers' Raffaele Cretaro in second and team-mate Chris Shields in third.

Duffy is the standout player in the league this year and Martin O'Neill will add him to his Ireland squad once international clearance from Northern Ireland is secured.

The flying winger bagged three goals in August - against Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Limerick - to bring his tally to 12 in 30 league appearances.

"I'm delighted to win it again," said Duffy (above) yesterday. "I'm enjoying how the season is going as I've been playing well. I just want to finish the year off on a high.

Dundalk are not in action this weekend as they were due to play Derry City who instead contest Sunday's EA Sports Cup final against Cobh Ramblers.

But they go to Turner's Cross next Friday for a potential title decider with the Rebels and Duffy said: "We'll be well prepared for that."

On his international ambitions, the Derry native added: "Since I got the call from Martin O'Neill, I've been doing well.

"Hopefully next time around the papers will have gone through and he picks me."
