my alternative cv.

Byline: Ian Stewart MD and owner, Brick Brewery, on The Jam, getting stuck in lifts and The Shawshank Redemption

What was your first job? My first job was during university working as a digital cartographer for a local authority planning department. What's been your worst job interview? I think the worst interview was actually where I was interviewing. The candidate turned up late and knew nothing about Brick, the role or the sector - he just thought it would be cool to work with beer (which it is, by the way).

What was the first music single you bought? The Jam, Going Underground. How do you describe your job to your mates? All my mates know what I do. I own a brewery so I have lots of friends. What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing Brick beer cans on tables of restaurants and seeing people ask for it at the bar.

What is the least rewarding part? The constant worry of managing money and cashflow. What is your motto in life? I firmly believe in treating others how I would like to be treated. If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? I wouldn't mind a private chef and a driver, or a teleporter for travel. Do you have any phobias? Yes, enclosed tight spaces. All stemming from being trapped in a lift with 20 people when it was meant for only eight. Oh, to be young. If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? Lose the unnecessary use of single-use plastic and over-packaging. What animal most reflects your personality? A chameleon. As a business owner you have to be different things to different people. What's your favourite film? Jaws - I love the way the shark isn't seen until well into the movie, building anticipation and suspense.

What was the most embarrassing moment in your life? I was a competitive swimmer back in the day and I remember having a swimsuit malfunction after diving in for a race. Most swimmers worry about their goggles coming off, not their trunks.

Which celebrity would you most like to work with? Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins together. Their epic performance in The Shawshank Redemption is addictive.

What would your death row meal be? Huevos rancheros.
