my 48 hours.

TV PRESENTER RICHARD MADELEY, 55, ON LEWD TEXTS AND DRINKING GIN IN BED How do you like to spend Friday nights? I have never been much of a clubber or someone who goes down the pub and gets hammered. If I do get pissed, it's usually in the privacy of my home. I used to love champagne but it gives me indigestion so now I drink Chilean sauvignon blanc instead. My limit in a night is about three large glasses then a G&T, which I take to bed.

Does Judy allow you a lie in at the weekends? Because I am a grown up, I can get up when I like, which is usually about nine on a Saturday morning. Judy is a real dormouse and if I didn't wake her up with a cup of tea, she would sleep until tea-time. If there was an Olympic medal for sleeping, she would win it. I get depressed if I lie in bed because my thoughts start dragging me down. I am very upbeat, but not if I don't get out of bed. As long as I am not horizontal, I'm OK.

Football or shopping on a Saturday afternoon? I'm not a football man. I don't support any clubs but I follow England when they are playing. I much prefer a browse around the shops. When I need to stock up on T-shirts, pants and socks, I go to Gap but my daughter Chloe and I love strolling around Selfridges on a Saturday afternoon, especially the food hall. After we've made any purchases, we'll head to Home House, a private members' club, for a bowl of soup or a glass of wine.

Who do you phone or text every weekend? David Walliams is incredibly rude and sends me the most obscene texts. They are so blatantly sexual - there's not even any innuendo in them. Judy and I interviewed him years ago on our Channel 4 chat show when he was promoting Little Britain and we've been friends ever since. We went to his wedding as well.

Describe a weekend you've really enjoyed Funnily enough it involves David Walliams. I'd been chatting to Jamie Oliver on our show and he told me that he was never invited to anyone's house for Sunday lunch. So I invited him, and David and Matt Lucas overheard and asked if they could come too. Everyone was knocking back the champagne. David had left his beautiful bespoke umbrella by the bannister near some candles and it caught fire. It was totally destroyed and David wasn't happy.

Who makes your favourite roast?Me. I do a rib of beef very well. I don't eat it now though after nearly choking to death. We were having a family Sunday lunch when a piece of meat got lodged in my windpipe. I turned blue at the table and my sister Liz performed the Heimlich manoeuvre, saving me. I really thought it was curtains.

When did you last have a wild night out? Last November when I took part in the Centrepoint Sleep Out and slept rough in London for the night. I dossed down with Sara Cox, Scott Mills and Christopher Biggins who got stonkered on Jack Daniel's but I couldn't get pissed because I was on Daybreak the next morning. I had about 20 minutes of sleep - London is so noisy at night.

DIY or a walk in the countryside?I am a total bodger. If something breaks I can usually fix it temporarily but no way will you find me doing DIY at weekends. I'd much rather be walking, which we do a lot of near our house In Cornwall. Or I'll be reading a book from our new book club or writing a few chapters of my novel.
