music: IAN GILLAN One Eye To Morocco (Ear Music).

Byline: by Paul Cole & Jack Daniels

DEEP Purple frontman Ian Gillan returns with a solo set of surprising subtlety, his trademark vocal toned down as he flits between genres. So although No Lotion For That, The Sky Is Falling Down and Change My Ways hark back to his purple patch, the Eastern-themed title track and soulful Don't Stop show you can teach an old dog new tricks. Both Better Days and Always The Traveller are bluesy, Texas State Of Mind is a ZZ Top-tinted boogie and Ultimate Groove opens like AC/DC before settling into an irresistibly funky foray reminiscent of Dr John.
