in Hornets pals to be his Bluebirds backroom staff.

Byline: Steve Tucker

David Kerslake, 45, Mackay's first team coach at Watford, becomes the Bluebirds' new assistant manager and 50-year-old Glaswegian, Joe McBride, Mackay's youth coach at Vicarage Road, becomes first team coach at Cardiff.

Trained physiotherapist Richard Collinge, the head of Watford's medical department under Mackay, becomes the Bluebirds' head of performance.

The appointments see a major shake-up in the backroom staff at the club with three of the top staff under former manager Dave Jones now told they are free to seek alternative employment.

Former assistant manager Terry Burton, first team coach Paul Wilkinson and fitness coach Alex Armstrong have all been placed on 'gardening leave.' A statement issued by Cardiff thanked the trio for their efforts which saw the Bluebirds again lose out in the Championship play-offs last season.

"Terry Burton, Paul Wilkinson and Alex Armstrong have been placed on gardening leave at the club until their contracts are resolved or other opportunities are found," the statement read.

"Cardiff City Football Club would like to place on record our sincere best wishes and thanks to Terry, Paul and Alex, all of whom have moved the club into a far better position based on their hard work under former manager Dave Jones. "We are sure all Cardiff City supporters will join us in thanking them for their hard work and commitment over the past few years." As Mackay meets his new players for the first time today he will get first-hand evidence of the major rebuilding task which faces him ahead of the Bluebirds' opening Championship fixture at West Ham on August 6. With the likes of Michael Chopra, Jay Bothroyd and Chris Burke departed and a host of loan players no longer at the club, Mackay and his new staff will need to move quickly and decisively in the transfer market.

The only new arrival of the summer so far is Craig Conway.
