MY SH*T LIFE SO FAR Frankie Boyle IF you're looking for penetrating pyschological insights or beautiful descripions of landscape, this isn't the autobiography for you. If you like crude jokes and smart aleck asides - bingo! Boyle made his name as the outragious one on TV show Mock The Week. He doesn't shy away from shock in his life story, either, starting with the title. In the book he writes about struggles with alcholism, fatherhood and the long and winding road to stand-up stardom. I like Boyle as a comedian, though he is a limited performer. Those limitations are apparent in this funny, though misanthropic volume. The relentless negativity dulls after a while, leaving this reader restless.

VERDICT: Boyle boils over (Harper Collins, pounds 18.99).
