INSPIRED by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's desire to make a non-stop action movie with the same frenetic energy as a videogame, Crank is a hyperviolent assault on the senses with a healthy disregard for good taste.

Armed with all the neat visual tricks from their award-winning television commercials and music videos, Neveldine and Taylor blaze onto the big screen, determined to deliver an unmistakable thrill-ride with a unique look and feel.

The anguish begins for hit-man Chev Chelios (Jason Statham, right) the moment he wakes up, in his Los Angeles apartment.

He spots a DVD containing a message from his sworn enemy, Verona (Cantillo) who reveals he has injected Chev with a deadly toxin. With time ebbing away and his life with it, Chev heads out into the seamy underbelly of the city with just one burning desire: revenge.

Statham huffs and puffs through his character's day from hell, bringing an affability and rough charm to the part.

Not that you'll have to engage your brain at any point, as Crank isn't the sharpest tool in the box. The only language the screenplay understands is wanton destruction and carnage.
