Fillers include calcium carbonates, kaolin clays, alumina trihydrates, wood and fiber flocks, wood flours, micas, magnesium carbonates, and precipitated amorphous silica.

AZALEA COLOR CO.

Functional mineral fillers available are various grades of talc, calcium carbonate, synthetic barium sulfate, and silica.

CREAFILL FIBERS CORP.

Supplies CreaTech alpha cellulose powders and fibers and CreaMix mineral modified fibers. Both grades are made from bio-based renewable pulp cellulose resources and are available in a wide range of particle sizes.

Products can be granulated or pelletized for more efficient handling and dosing and provide reliable reinforcement, low density, non-abrasion, matrix formation, and low cost in plastics composite applications that include phenolics, urea, polyester, PVC, styrene, nylons, PP and HDPE.

CreaTech powders and fibers have a 99.6% alpha cellulose content that gives purity and consistency with high-temperature toleraiice, superior brightness, low density and volumetric efficiency. CreaTech adds flexural and impact strength to almost any plastic application.

CreaMix fibers are a cost-effective alternative for plastics applications that require a reliable functional filler at an economical cost where brightness and purity are not a factor. CreaMix fibers are derived from reclaimed cellulose sources and offer a minimum of 75% cellulose content. Benefits include strong matrix formation, product rigidity, and impact strength.

CRISTAL GLOBAL

Silcron amorphous, fine-particle silica gel in a variety of grades performs as a thixotrope and flatting agent, in addition to preserving clarity and smoothness of finish. Improves pigment dispersion and moisture control; eliminates blocking and plate-out; improves mar resistance or pencil and ink receptivity; and ensures smoother, uninterrupted flow of dry powders. A nontoxic, chemically inert powder averaging 4 to 8 microns can be dry-blended with resin or pigment powders, compounded into resin melts, or be incorporated into a masterbatch or concentrate.

EVONIK DEGUSSA CORP., AEROSIL & SILANES

Aerosil 130, 200, 300 and 380 pyrogenic fumed silicas are thixotropes and reinforcing fillers for silicone rubber and used as additives to prevent plateout in calendered PVC. Aerosil R 972 hydrophobic pyrogenic silica is a reinforcing filler for silicone rubber and a free-flow additive used where moisture pickup can cause caking problems.

Aluminum oxide C pyrogenic alumina is an antistatic agent for granular plastics.

Sipernat 22LS, FK500LS, and Sipernat 44 precipitated silicas arc antiblocking agents in blown PP film (also Aerosil OX50 and Aerosil FLM).

Sipernat 22LS and FK500LS also used to prevent plateout in PVC calendered films. Sipernat 22, 22S, 50, and 50S act as anticaking aids or can be used to convert liquids into easy-to-disperse powders. Hydrophobic Sipernat D17 and Dll are anticaking agents for extremely hygroscopic powders, and FK140 and FK160 are reinforcing fillers in silicone rubber.

EXPANCEL AKZONOBEL

Thermoplastic microspheres are ultra-light-weight, flexible, and resilient. Average density between 0.025 and 0.060 g/cc; average particle diam. of 20 to 140 microns. Uniform cell structure and compatibility with resins such as PUR, epoxies, PVC, and PE. Also used in polyesters as a lightweight filler that imparts enough flexibility to the composite to reduce cracking and brittleness.

Available unexpanded for in-situ foaming. RIM applications incorporate Expancel DU (dry, unexpanded) to achieve target densities and reduce shrinkage. PVC plastisols use Expancel DU for uniform, controlled voids in foaming.

Offers hollow microscopic glass spheres with average particle size under 70 microns. Density, strength, packing fraction, particle size, and percent of floaters are controlled. Scotchlite Glass Bubbles reportedly allow for a compound or composite for best cost, weight, texture, shrinkage, and sanding time. Enhancement potential includes abrasion- and corrosion-resistance, gloss control, hardness, low viscosity and lowered VOCs in industrial coatings. Applications include auto-body putty, automotive plastisols, ure-thane foam, polyester SMC, BMC, spray-up, and hand lay-up.

Zeospheres thick-walled, high-compres-sive-strength, very fine particle size ceramic microspheres are used as specialty extenders in thermoset and thermoplastic systems such as SMC, BMC, RIM, RTM, compression molding, injection molding, extrusion, and potting/casting. Variety of particle sizes, including grades fine enough for use as antiblocking agents for films. Products contribute to high filler loadings, increased flow, improved surface finish and hardness, and reduced shrinkage and warpage.

Offers silica, nepheline syenite, and feldspar. Whole-grain and ground silica offered for polyester and epoxy systems. High-quality nepheline syenite is good for thermoplastics where color is important. Nepheline also used in PVC and polyester gel coats to maintain color clarity, and in BMC for patio furniture or microwave cookware that's resistant to staining. Also a proven antiblock for PE where clarity is important.

WORLD MINERALS INC. CELITE CORP.

Diatomaceous silicas (diatomite) used as anti-block agents in LDPE, LLDPE, and HDPE films. Use levels can range from 0.1% to 1%. Diatomite lends itself well to masterbatching at levels of 50% by weight. Super Floss grade offers good optical properties at an economical cost.
