fashion: IT'S A MAN THING; Girly outfits with a masculine side.

MAXED out on feminine frocks and florals this summer?

Lose your girly streak in this season's mannish fashions. From oversized shirts to trouser braces and brogues, you can pull off the look with a few key pieces.

Marc Jacobs showcased mannish pleat fronted trousers and buttoned-up white shirts at his spring/summer shows, while Stella McCartney favoured a masculine edge with slouchy trousers and knits.

Here's how to employ those feminine wiles and make modish masculine styles turn heads this summer...

GET SHIRTY

An oversize shirt requires zero effort but achieves maximum impact, Go slouchy and pull in at the waist with a patent belt for instant femme appeal. Try French Connection's shirt dress, pounds 50, Farhi's grey stripe short sleeve shirt, pounds 80 at House of Fraser, or ASOS' oversized shirt dress, pounds 22.

If you prefer shirts without super-plain qualities, look for J Jeans by Jasper Conran's pintuck shirt, pounds 25 at Debenhams, or Cherokee's white ruffle shirt, pounds 15.

MANLY LEG-ACY

Go boyish and baggy in Linea's cream wide leg silk/linen mix trousers, pounds 75 at House of Fraser, Great Plains' linen trousers, pounds 45, or Ringspun's wide leg trousers, pounds 55 at Discoo.

Those seeking a sharper suited-andbooted look should head straight for the skinny straight-leg slacks.

Look to Untold's straight leg trousers, pounds 90 at House of Fraser, or Topshop's high waist skinny trouser, pounds 30.

For a relaxed take on the trend, seek out boyish shorts or slouchy denim. Go for F&F's black belted shorts, pounds 15, J Jeans by Jasper Conran's pinstripe turn ups, pounds 40 at Debenhams, Topshop's blue denim dungarees with tie waist, pounds 35, or ASOS' loose boyfit braces jean, pounds 25.

BOYISH BLAZERS

Blazers are having a resurgence on the style radar and there's a shape to suit all, from oversized mannish shapes to cute, cropped tuxedo numbers.

Try Marks & Spencer's Limited pinstripe blazer, pounds 69, River Island's PVC trim black blazer, pounds 59.99 (100 Euros), or Untold's Boyfriend jacket, pounds 140 at House of Fraser.

Don't fancy a blazer? Slip on a waistcoat over a slinky tee for a boyish take on the trend. Try ASOS' halter waistcoat, pounds 25, or Topshop's drop front waistcoat, pounds 35.

MASCULINE EDGE

When the girly vibe is just too strong in you, avoid going man overboard with a couple of choice accessories.

Boy brogues are hot this summer. Achieve the look with River Island's winkle picker brogues, pounds 39.99, or Faith's silver leather brogues, pounds 40. For a feminine take on the brogue, step up your game with a heel like Jane Shilton's Mister lace-up heeled brogues, pounds 79.99.

Stars like Kate Moss and Madonna are rarely snapped without their fedoras, flat caps or trilbies of late.

Hats are an easy way to give the nod to the mannish look. Try Topshop's black straw trilby, pounds 20, or Beyond Retro's bowler hat, pounds 25.

Accessories like chunky watches, ties and braces are extra ensemble additions to achieve the look.

Pull off the mannish mood and you could find yourself putting even the most stylish of men in the shade.
