IT is with regret to report the passing of another of our ex-service colleagues held in high respect by all who knew him. Jim Danks, an 80-year-old veteran, served in the Royal Engineers and Airborne Forces during the war and lost a leg while in action in the Palestine campaign. Following medical discharge and a period of resettlement, Jim became chairman of the Coventry branch of the Royal Engineers' Association and was also an active member of the Coventry branch of both the Airborne Association and the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association. There were nine Coventry ex-service standards, together with a bugler, who formed a guard of honour, led by the RE standard at his funeral, with a large number of members of the BLESMA and the RE branches. Condolences are conveyed to his family who in turn wish to thank all who were present for Jim's last parade.
CONGRATULATIONS to Joe and Rita McCarthy who celebrated their diamond wedding. Joe served in the Royal Navy for eight years, including war service on destroyers. On the occasion of their golden wedding they were guests at a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.
