culture club: Classic Concertos.

The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle. The Ensemble plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison, who was born in Newcastle in 1709.

A composer, conductor, organist and writer of music, he is considered to be the most important English concerto composer of the 18th century. On Sunday, November 25 at 3pm at the Jubilee Theatre, St Nicholas' Hospital, Newcastle, The Avison Ensemble has invited Culture Club members to their performance of Concert Concertos after Scarlatti by Charles Avison. Following the programme, the Avison Ensemble will record the complete Avison/Scarlatti concertos. Culture Club members can get pounds 1 off the price of their tickets. The Avison Ensemble has also donated two CDs of their wonderful recording of Avison's 12 concerti after Geminiani, signed by the Avison Ensemble musicians.

This is the first recording of these fantastic baroque concertos. To win the CD's simply answer this question; "In what year was Charles Avison born?"
