carry on motoring; LEGEND OF THE E-TYPE.
COMEDIAN Sid James became the proud owner of an E-type at the peak of his career in the 1960s.
Born in Johannesburg in 1914 he worked as a stevedore, professional dancer, boxer and skating instructor before joining the South African Army in 1939.
Although he'd first appeared in music hall at the age of 10 many years would pass before he achieved fame on the stage, on radio and in films.
Favourites among his tens of thousands of fans are: The Lavender Hill Mob, The Sidney James Show, Hancock's Half Hour, Citizen James, George and the Dragon, Two in Clover, and of course the many Carry On comedies.
