campaign on sexual harrassment launched.

Byline: Staff Report

Dubai The Juvenile Association in Dubai is conducting a year-long awareness campaign on sexual harassment and abuse, which will mainly be focused in schools.

The campaign is launched under the direction of Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, chairman of the board of directors of the association and Chief of Dubai Police to educate pupils and parents on what constitutes harassment and ways to prevent it.

aeDangerous matter'

According to Dr Mohammad Murad, Director of the decision-making support centre at Dubai Police, sexual abuse and harassment is not a widespread phenomenon in the UAE but it is considered a highly "dangerous matter" as it effects the community as a whole.

Parents need to educate their children on ways to realise and react to harassment if faced with it. "More importantly, these matters should be reported and the culture of taboo should be eliminated," he said.

The campaign will organise lectures in different public schools and during various social activities coordinated throughout the year.
