books: historical adventure; THE TIME OF TERROR by Seth Hunter ***.

Byline: by Lorne Jackson

HUNTER has written a ripsnorting, well researched novel about Britain's naval campaign against Revolutionary France.

Commander Nathan Peake of the British Navy is charged with undermining the French economy by smuggling millions of French bank notes into Paris.

Once there, he meets a host of legendary historical figures, including Mary Wolstonecraft, the fiery feminist, and mother of Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley.

Thomas Paine, the revolutionary thinker is also there, along with assorted gangsters and crazed idealists.

Hunter has done his research, but wears it lightly as he drives on his narrative with relish.

An admirable adventure about the British admiralty.
