My Funny Family Gets Bigger by Chris Higgins (Hodder), priced PS4.99.

IT'S ALWAYS busy in the Butterfield house. There's mum and dad, five children - plus another on the way - and Jellico the dog.

We've had two Funny Family stories before - My Funny Family and My Funny Family On Holiday - and this book continues the little adventures of the whirling dervish that is Mattie and her family.

Here, we see them all just before they return to school after the summer holidays and Mattie is compiling her daily worry list.

What I like about the Funny Family books is that they are charming and rather sweet and absolutely right for a newly independent reader. There's always something interesting going on but it's not so packed with action that the young reader gets lost with what's happening.
