Emma Kirkby at St Donats Arts Centre, Llantwit Major, today Soprano Emma Kirkby and flute-player Anthony Rooley promise a beautiful, champagne-fizzed summer evening of songs, airs and dances from the Elizabethan Royal Court by John Dowland.

Sunburned Hand of The Man, Monkey Cafe Bar, Swansea, Wednesday Skronky free-folk from cape-draped mountain men. Last time I saw them they had pinecones laid all over the drums. Always worth watching

Dave Pegg and PJ Wright, Norwegian Church Arts Centre, Cardiff, Thursday Fairport Conventioneer Pegg and folkie mainstay Wright bring their guitars, bouzoukis, mandolin, dobros, harmonicas and bass to the fore. No banjos though, apparently. Take it or leave it then.

The Fall of Troy, TJs, Newport, Friday Occasionally patience-trying but never less than earnest screamy rock music.With lots of flashy guitar playing. Should also be very loud, if that makes a difference.
