best film.

Hannibal (Five, tonight, 11.20pm) IT was the role that finally bagged Tony Hopkins an Oscar.

Odd then that all the magnificent menace he managed to muster (I thereby claim the prize for Alliteration Of TheWeek) with barely 30 minutes of screen time in Silence Of The Lambs gets so diffused when he gets an entire feature-length film to play with.

Here Hopkins' cultured serial killer is hiding out in Italy and proves more high camp than high terror.

Still, it's great to see theWelshman having fun with disembowelling and the like, while Ray Liotta's poor FBI guy ends up wishing for the day when Lecter limited himself to eating census takers with fava beans and a nice chianti.
