Former COO of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Brings Extensive Healthcare Administration Experience to Practice Management Service Provider

King-Shaw is the former COO of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and has been a prominent figure in both federal and state government overseeing healthcare issues. He brings over 15 years of experience in healthcare administration and government compliance to athenahealth, which offers revenue cycle management services that help physicians better manage their practices, increase profitability and improve their quality of care.

King-Shaw is currently chairman of the board and chief marketing officer of deNovis, a healthcare software firm. He also sits on the board of Wellcare Health Plans of Tampa, Florida, and the Scripps Funding Board in Palm Beach. King-Shaw served in the George W. Bush presidential administration with various assignments, including Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury. As Deputy Administrator and Chief Operating Officer of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the largest health insurance and financial services organization in the world, King-Shaw oversaw an annual budget of $420 billion and was responsible for the day-to-day direction of the Medicare, Medicaid and Child Health Insurance programs. He also guided healthcare initiatives including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act.

Prior to joining the Bush administration, King-Shaw was the secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). He has an extensive background in health care management, having served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of the Miami-based Neighborhood Health Partnership, a joint venture between John Alden/Fortis Inc., physicians and hospitals. From 1993 to 1995, he was senior vice president of the New Ventures Division of John Alden Health, Inc. Prior to joining John Alden in 1993, King-Shaw was the director of the JMH Health Plan, an integrated delivery system operated by a partnership of the Public Health Trust of Dade County and the University of Miami School of Medicine.

King-Shaw's education includes a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations with a specialty in Economic Security with Dean's honors from Cornell University's ILR School; a Master of International Business at the Center for International Studies in Madrid, Spain; and a Master of Health Services Administration from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
