OPERA star Russell Watson was last night recovering after an emergency operation to remove a brain tumour.

The chart-topping singer had a three-inch growth cut out during a five-hour procedure.

He went to see a doctor after suffering headaches and impaired vision while recording his new album in Los Angeles, which was being filmed by GMTV.

Russell, 39, had the op at St George's hospital in Tooting, South London, when he returned home.

The benign tumour was removed through his nose under local anaesthetic.

After he was discharged yesterday, his spokesman said: "He is fine." Russell is expected to be fit for his UK tour in November.
