Cycling: Devlins pull four points clear at top of the table.

CYCLE SPEEDWAY: Coventry Devlins Newsagents maintained their unbeaten start in the British League when they scored a fine 96-81 victory at Sandwell.

In a match full of superb racing, Coventry - without three times world champion Dave Helmsley - made a hesitant start, before recovering well to assert control.

They appeared rusty early on as their lack of action in the past four weeks was apparent and were four points down after the first three heats.

Three heats later they were levelbefore captain Dave Frith produced a stunning ride in heat seven, coming from the back to join Damian Wozny at the front for Coventry's first maximum heat win to give them a lead they never surrendered.

They are now four points clear at the top of the table following Leicester's shock home defeat against Sheffield.

Coventry scorers: Rycharski 14, Binkowski 18, Bedra 18, Pointer 8, Wozny 16, Frith 12, Sangster 5, Mclaughlin 5.

Coventry return to action on Sunday at Hearsall Common, when they entertain fast rising East Newport in a British League Challenge (3pm).
