Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (NYSE:MC), best known by its Panasonic brand name as a producer of electronic products for consumer, business and industrial use, has purchased Tektronix signal sources and oscilloscopes for Panasonic's first High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) Authorized Testing Center (ATC) in Japan, which was established for HDMI compliance testing. HDMI is the latest standard defining an uncompressed digital video and audio interface for connecting a wide range of consumer electronics products. It centers on electronics manufacturers adhering to rigorous, mandated measurement procedures. Tektronix recently announced the recommendation of its test equipment in the HDMI 1.0 Compliance Test Specification, issued by the HDMI Licensing LLC and the purchase of its equipment by Silicon Image, Inc., for the first HDMI Authorized Testing Center in the United States. "As a leading electronics manufacturer, it was critical for us to open an HDMI Authorized Testing Center in Japan to help our suppliers develop HDMI compatible products," said Naoshi Usuki, manager, and Panasonic AVC Development Center. "With the recent recommendation of Tektronix' equipment as the approved compliance measurement solution for HDMI testing, Panasonic will be able to ensure interoperability and customer confidence, furthering the acceptance of this emerging standard." The Panasonic HDMI compliance solution includes two signal sources: a DTG5274 Data Timing Generator which provides digital data using features, such as its integral DC voltage outputs, simplify the test setup by eliminating the need for external power supplies; and an AWG710 Arbitrary Waveform Generator that provides a synchronizing clock signal to the DTG5274 and second clock signal (containing deliberately added jitter as needed) to the HDMI device under test. A selection of specially developed test adapters delivers signals to the device undergoing testing, while pre-written software sequences -- developed with the input of HDMI founders for the DTG5274 -- generate the gradations and test patterns outlined in the HDMI Compliance Test Specification. In addition, the TDS7404 oscilloscope provides the industry's best solution to the challenging signal integrity issues faced by designers verifying, characterizing and debugging sophisticated HDMI designs. A variety of Tektronix test equipment, including data timing generators, arbitrary waveform generators, digital phosphor and TDR sampling oscilloscopes, and clock recovery software was recommended as test equipment for the HDMI 1.0 Compliance Test Specification.
