BIG-hearted zoo keepers from around the country are taking to their bikes in a bid to fundraise for endangered ape species.

Dublin and Belfast zoos have joined forces with cycle specialists to launch the first Charity Cycle For Apes.

Participants will travel 180km from Belfast Zoo to Dublin Zoo to raise funds for the 2011 European Association of Zoos and Aquaria Ape Campaign.

Dublin Zoo director Leo Oosterweghel said: "Almost all the apes are either endangered or critically endangered.

"I'm delighted to support our animal care team.

"I urge everybody to get involved by taking part or showing support by donating."
