Zoitsa (Economou) Panagiotou, 97.

WORCESTER Zoitsa (Economou) Panagiotou, 97, died September 4th. She was born in Douviani, Argyrokastro Northern Epirus, Albania. She was predeceased by her husband Vassil, a daughter, Alexandra and a brother Vlasios Economou.

As her name implies, Zoitsa "Zoe" loved life, her family and friends. For many years she and her husband lived in West Dennis, where they had an abundance of friends and wonderful times. Zoitsa loved flowers and gardening, was a great cook, enjoyed reading novels in Greek and was a meticulous homemaker. She was a great hostess and loved to entertain. Her greatest joy in life was the reunion with her elder son Dhimo and his family when circumstances allowed them to emigrate to America from Albania. The separation always cast a palor over her life and was only removed when they arrived in Worcester.

She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Ladies' Epirotic Society-Horos Tou Zalongou which honored her in 2006, the St. George Douviani Society, the Senior Parishioner Society and the Hellenic Arts Society. She was also a member of St. George Orthodox Church in Centerville, MA. As long as she was able, she volunteered her time to the Grecian Festivals held in Worcester and Cape Cod.

She leaves two sons, Dhimo and his wife Sophia, and Matthew with whom she lived; two grandchildren, Vaso and his wife Genta, and Rita and her husband Gokulan; three great-grandchildren, Christina, Alexa-Julia and Theodore. She also leaves nephews, Alkiviades and his wife Maria and their daughter Effie, Paul and Eleni Economou, a niece, Leonora and her husband Misto Dhima and their children Pinellope and Andrea of Albania. In addition she leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

Great gratitude goes to her caretaker Elly Nasti who cared for her with love and tenderness.
