Zinn on patriotism. (Letters to the Editors).

Howard Zinn could not have chosen a better way to illustrate the ugly side of patriotism ("Dying for the Government," June issue). Zinn mentioned Mark Twains criticism of the U.S. invasion of the Philippines. Twain also spoke of how the American flag had been "dragged through the mud." Our flag will continue to be soiled until, as Zinn suggests, we seek respect from the world for our dedication to human rights rather than our military prowess and begin to consider all children everywhere as our own.
