Zenith Electronics Corp.

GLENVIEW, III.--Zenith Electronics Corp. has reported plans to expand production of color TV picture tubes, install new automated production processes and start up a new production line for projection TV picture tubes. These programs were approved in mid-December by Zenith's board of directors and are subject to the availability of capital for the needed investments. One of Zenith's financing options involves the sale of common stock, and the company has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a shelf offering of 6.5 million shares.

In 1994, Zenith increased its production capacity at its color picture tube plant in Melrose Park, Ill., to more than 4 million tubes a year from about 3.6 million. Demand for U.S. picture tubes is being driven by the strength of the color TV market and higher tube sales due to the North American Free Trade Agreement.
