ZYCAD ANNOUNCES RECORD FOURTH QUARTER REVENUE AND PROFIT
MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Zycad Corp. (NASDAQ: ZCAD) today reported the highest quarterly revenues and profits in the company's history. For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991, the company reported revenue of $15,026,000 and operating profit of $2,744,000 or $0.16 per share, compared to revenues of $8,187,000 and operating profit of $270,000 or $0.02 per share for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1990.
Net income for the 1991 fourth quarter was $3,059,000 or $0.17 per share compared to net income in the 1990 fourth quarter of $2,827,000 or $0.19 per share, which included a gain on the sale of the VHDL product line of $2,404,000, or $0.16 per share.
For the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 1991, net income amounted to $5,249,000, or $0.30 per share, on revenues of $43,454,000 compared to a net loss of $15,671,000, or $1.04 per share, on revenues of $30,355,000 for the comparable period in 1990. The 1990 loss included restructuring charges of $10,528,000 or $0.70 per share, related to Zycad's business realignment and the gain on the sale of the VHDL product line of $2,404,000, or $0.16 per share.
Zycad's 1991 revenue amount of $43.5 million was the highest in its history and represented a 43 percent increase over 1990 revenues. The increase is primarily attributed to the excellent market penetration of the XP product family and the continued growth in the contract service business.
"What a difference a year can make," stated Phillips W. Smith, president and chief executive officer of Zycad Corp. "It has been a tremendous year of growth and transition for Zycad. Our fourth quarter and year-end results are a reflection of the progress the company has made. We have successfully established partner relationships with most of the major Electronic Design Automation (EDA) vendors; Protocol, our services division, continues to expand its business opportunities; and the XP Family of Simulation Accelerators has emerged as the de facto industry standard platform for simulation acceleration.
"We are proud of the financial progress made in 1991," continued Smith. "Revenues grew, we achieved significant profits compared to the recent past, and we continue to invest in sales, marketing, and R&D activities that will provide the foundation for continued profitable growth. In addition, our year end cash position increased to approximately $15 million. We expect that current and planned product and service offerings will enable us to both maintain our simulation acceleration industry leadership and increase our market penetration in 1992 and beyond."
Zycad Corp., located in Menlo Park, is the leader in the design, development and marketing of logic and fault simulation acceleration products used for the design of single and multi-ASIC to complete electronic systems. In addition, Protocol, the Service Division of Zycad, located in Mount Olive, N.J., provides system engineering services to the Federal Government and commercial companies. Zycad has offices worldwide and is traded on the OTC under the symbol ZCAD.
