ZYCAD ANNOUNCES FOURTH QUARTER AND ANNUAL RESULTS FOR 1992

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Zycad Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: ZCAD) today reported a net loss of $4,743,000, or 31 cents per share on revenues of $10,004,000, for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, compared to net income of $3,059,000, or 17 cents per share on revenue of $15,026,000, for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991.
The net loss for the 12-month period ended Dec. 31, 1992, was $2,798,000, or 18 cents per share on revenues of $45,154,000, compared to net income of $5,249,000, or 30 cents per share on revenues of $43,454,000, for the comparable period in 1991.
The loss for the December 1992 quarter and the full year in 1992 included restructuring charges, principally related to reduction in staffing levels, which amounted to $814,000, or 5 cents per share.
Zycad had announced in January 1993 that it expected to report a loss for both the fourth quarter and for the full year due to lower revenues in the quarter, and the results reported today are in the range anticipated.
Phillips W. Smith, president and chief executive officer, stated that, "The fourth quarter results were extremely disappointing and interrupted a succession of nine straight quarters of profitability. The loss in the quarter is a direct result of lower than expected revenues caused by customers both cancelling and deferring engineering design projects." Smith added that "we anticipate the impact of a weak economy will continue for another one or two quarters and, accordingly, staff reduction actions were necessary to achieve profitability at lower revenue levels."
