ZUZU ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE 'HANDMADE' MEXICAN FOOD NATIONWIDE

DALLAS, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- ZuZu, the colorful and popular Dallas-based restaurant chain that introduced authentic handmade Mexican food to Dallas-Fort Worth four years ago, is launching a national expansion program that company officials predict will introduce the fresher, more authentic handmade style of Mexican food to consumers from coast to coast within five years.
"It's time the rest of America found out about handmade Mexican food," said Horatio Lonsdale-Hands, co-founder, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the chain. "As our advertising campaigns say, this truly is The Next Mex(TM).'"
According to Lonsdale-Hands and co-founder Espartaco Borga, president, franchise development will be expanded to include two areas of focus:
-- Major Southwest markets such as New Orleans, Phoenix, Denver, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
-- Select large metropolitan markets nationwide.
ZuZu is seeking multi-unit operators with the resources to develop an entire major metropolitan market.
In the nine months since initially offering franchises in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the company has already signed 16 franchises and anticipates selling the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth market by September.
Based on this response, company officials decided to begin a more aggressive expansion program.
"National expansion is something we planned all along," said Lonsdale-Hands. "But we honestly had not anticipated that the response to our DFW franchise opportunity would be so strong. Now that we have consolidated our position in DFW and successfully opened franchise stores, we knew we could expand to other markets throughout the Southwest."
Unlike traditional Tex-Mex restaurants, ZuZu restaurants offer handmade Mexican food which is fresh, wholesome regional Mexican food such as fresh masa (corn dough) quesadillas and gorditas, roasted green tomatillos salsa, roasted poblano red salsa, epazote black beans, and achiote-lime marinated grilled chicken at affordable prices. The menu has been widely praised both in local media and in national publications.
"This is not Tex-Mex, which is what many people consider Mexican food," said Borga, who developed the menu from his native Spanish Mexican heritage. "This is authentic Mexican food that is a healthful and fresh alternative to typical fast-food franchises and traditional Tex-Mex."
For a $20,000 franchise fee, ZuZu offers its franchisees complete training, operational and marketing support.
