ZIFF DAVIS MEDIA PREVAILS IN SUIT, LAUNCHES "CIO INSIGHT".
A federal judge has ruled in favor of Ziff Davis Media (New York) in a suit brought against it by International Data Group (Boston, MA) to prevent the launch of CIO Insight. As a result of the ruling, Ziff Davis has launched the first issue of the new magazine. IDG filed suit against Ziff Davis in March alleging copyright infringement of IDG's CIO magazine. The new magazine, launched on May 22, has a controlled circulation of 50,000 technology executives, including CIOs, CTOs, and IS/IT/MIS professionals. It is designed to help readers with their business goals and objectives by providing information on strategic deployment and application of IT solutions and services. Editor Ellen Pearlman said that CIOs seek "qualitative and quantitative research, strategic perspective and insightful opinions from respected experts, and that's what we will deliver."
Ziff Davis Chairman James Dunning, Jr. said his company "is investing for the long-term by launching media properties such as CIO Insight that deliver (to) our customers the highest quality of editorial product and the most effective vehicle to reach their key constituencies." The first issue of the magazine carried 50 ad pages.
In related news, Ziff Davis Media has cut 50 jobs, or 5% of its work force. The decision comes as ad pages for most of the company's publications continue to decrease.
