MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- ZEOS International, Ltd. (NASDAQ: ZEOS) announced today the introduction of a completely new line of personal computer systems based on Intel Corporation's (NASDAQ: INTC) new Pentium(TM) microprocessor. The new line of ZEOS systems is called "Pantera" and incorporates a feature set unique in the PC industry.
The new ZEOS Pantera Pentium CPU based systems are designed for use as high performance PC workstations or powerful network file servers. The ZEOS Pantera system line includes the latest PC interface technology, known as PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect), as well as business audio capability in every system.
Enhanced Features for Faster System Performance
At the heart of the new Pantera systems are motherboards designed by ZEOS and assembled for ZEOS at Intel Corporation's Hillsboro, Ore., ssembly plant. In addition to featuring Intel's new Pentium microprocessor, the ZEOS design utilizes Intel's "Mercury" chipset designed specifically for the Pentium microprocessor. Significantly, the systems also feature a PCI interface chip designed by ZEOS which enhances the performance of many I/O (Input/Output) devices connected to the Intel backed PCI bus. This device integrates support for up to four IDE devices on the local bus.
"One of the significant differences between the ZEOS Pentium based CPU offerings and those offered by our competitors is the ZEOS designed motherboard," commented Rick Apple, ZEOS vice president of marketing. "Many of our competitors have chosen system boards designed by others. The ZEOS strategy is to work very closely with the appropriate parties at Intel while designing a feature and performance set which we feel are superior to our competitor's offerings.
"As an example," Apple continued, "at a 60MHz CPU operating speed the PCI architecture incorporated on the ZEOS motherboard delivers 32-bit data at a sustained data rate of up to 120 Megabytes per second between the CPU and PCI peripheral devices. This compares to a transfer rate of only six to eight Megabytes on the traditional ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) bus and only 32 Megabytes on the EISA (Extended Industry Standard Architecture) bus."
As a further performance enhancement, the new ZEOS Pantera systems come standard with a 256 Kilobyte (KB) memory cache which is expandable to 512KB. The customer has a choice of a variety of hard disk drives with high speed 528 Megabyte IDE, 1 Gigabyte (GB) or 2GB SCSI hard disk drives as standard depending on the model ordered.
 Built-in Business Audio Capability
Perhaps one of the most distinctive features of the new ZEOS Pantera systems is the incorporation of business audio capability on the system motherboard. This provides the customers with the ability to access business audio through an inexpensive microphone and speakers or a simple headset. The ZEOS business audio solution fully supports Microsoft's Windows multimedia audio. Available software further enhances business audio allowing for voice recognition, document voice annotation, as well as selective proofreading of all applications for the Windows operating system.
"We are aware of only one company, Compaq (NASDAQ: CPQ), presently offering this type of capability as a built-in standard," Apple noted. "Now their customers have a second source for the built-in business audio."
Additional product features include a dual-spin CD-ROM as standard, hard disk drives from 528MB to 2GB, a 1.44MB floppy disk drive, Random Access Memory from 8 to 192MB, PCI video, 15" SVGA color monitor, 5 ISA expansion slots and 3 PCI expansion slots, support for an optional onboard chip upgrade to fast SCSI-2, keyboard, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) mouse, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and DOS operating systems, the customer's choice from a selection of Lotus (NASDAQ: LOTS) applications software and more.
"With the tremendous demands of today's computing world, customers are looking for super-fast, high-technology systems at down to earth prices. This unique ZEOS designed Pantera product line, based on Intel's Pentium CPU, is right on the mark," Apple said.
Prices for the new ZEOS Pantera, Pentium based computers, start at only $3,495 for a complete system including 8MB of RAM, 256K cache, a 528MB hard disk drive, CD-ROM, vertical ten bay case, PCI based color video, software and more.
